Warner Bros. Sets ‘The Lunar Chronicles’ For 2028 Release, Announces New Details About Film

Warner Bros. Pictures Animation (WBPA) and Locksmith Animation announced today that The Lunar Chronicles is set to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures on November 3, 2028.

The Lunar Chronicles becomes the sixth animated feature that WBPA plans to release between 2026 and 2028, an impressive slate for a studio that has not released a theatrical animated feature since 2022’s DC League of Super-Pets.

Based on Marissa Meyer’s bestselling book series, the film is set in a futuristic fairytale universe. It will mark the feature directorial debut of Noëlle Raffaele (story artist on The Lego Ninjago Movie, The Marvels, Ray Gunn; director of DC Super Hero Girls) and produced by Christina Steinberg (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Rise of the Guardians).

Raffaele will direct from a screenplay by Lindsey Ferrentino (who has written stageplays and musicals including The Fear of 13, Queen of Versailles, and The Artist) and writing partners Kalen Egan & Travis Sentell (Electric Dreams, The Man in the High Castle).

In a joint statement, Bill Damaschke, president of WBPA, and Natalie Fischer, CEO of Locksmith, said:

The Lunar Chronicles is the second film collaboration between WBPA and Locksmith (Ron’s Gone Wrong, That Christmas). The first will be the upcoming Bad Fairies from director Megan Nicole Dong. Here is the current line-up of upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures Animation releases:
